Green Prescription

What is a Green Prescription?

A Green Prescription (GRx) is a health professional’s written advice to improve your health and wellbeing. You can get a Green Prescription  from your Doctor or Practise Nurse. You can also refer yourself, by calling 0800 ACTIVE (0800 22 84 83).

The Green Prescription programme offers friendly advice and opportunities to improve your health with simple changes to your diet and daily activity. There will also be opportunities to meet other people in the community who are choosing to be more active just like you.

Green Prescription is tailored to you, our team will work with you to create a plan that works for you.

It is free to take part in Green Prescription, and most of the exercise options are either free or low cost.

How does Green Prescription work?

Step 1 – Your Doctor (GP) or Practice Nurse gives you a Green Prescription either written or electronically.

Step 2 – Your Green Prescription is automatically sent to our team. They will contact you to arrange a chat and discover how we can help.

Step 3 – You will meet with our Green Prescription team who will create a nutrition and activity plan that suits you.

Step 4 – You’ll get lots of encouragement, help and support from the team to achieve your goals.

Step 5 – We’ll keep your Doctor / Practice Nurse updated in how you’re doing. Each Green Prescription can last up to 5 months. However, if you still need some help at the end of your prescription, we can recommend that your Doctor / Practise Nurse extends your referral.
