Active Schools is a new national initiative developed by SPARC in response to declining physical activity levels among primary aged school children.
It is designed to support school communities to promote and increase physical activity and wellbeing by helping children realise their potential and getting more kids, more active, more often. SPARC have envisaged that by empowering and supporting students, educators, parents and communities they will choose to participate in, and enjoy daily physical activity.
Active Schools Facilitator Kelly Swann’s main role is to provide schools with in-depth support in co-curricular physical activity and school community planning to develop effective quality physical activity cultures within their school communities.
Another pertinent role of the Active Schools Facilitator is to facilitate training sessions for teachers that are based on their needs and also the delivery of the Active Schools Toolkit Workshop a resource developed by SPARC to support schools in meeting legislative changes to the school curriculum document which include reference to regular quality physical activity.
