Healthy Kids Active Families

Healthy Kids Active Families is a programme designed to provide information, encouragement and support to children and their families. The focus of the program is on school age children who are at risk of developing or have developed medical conditions related to inactivity and /or poor eating patterns.

Evidence suggests that eating and activity habits are formed during the early years of childhood and that the parents / caregivers are a major influence on the development of these habits. This program therefore works closely with the child and the parents / caregivers to look at ways to incorporate physical activity and healthy eating choices into the family’s lifestyle.

The child / family meet regularly with Joy Williams or Dave Timms, our HKAF Advisors and discuss a variety of issues such as; realistic / fun ways to become more active, eating for health and making helpful lifestyle choices.

Weekly Activity Sessions are held for all HKAF members and their whanau. These sessions aim to develop skills, use lots of energy, be loads of fun and provide opportunities to meet other families involved in the Program.
