Club Directory

Gisborne Archery Club

We are primarily a target archery club and are fortunate enough to have a great 30m indoor range and also an outdoor range at Gisborne Intermediate School.

The club can only take membership from 10 years old onwards.Indoor sessions for both seniors and juniors take place on a Wednesday evening. This takes place from 5.30pm.

If you own your own archery equipment you can also shoot on a Sunday morning outdoors at our range at Gisborne Intermediate School grounds. Summer hours 8.30am.

Procedure in regards to learning archeryTo join the club and start attending these sessions you must first of all complete a course in archery. This is done on a one-on-one basis, one student per coach.

This takes place over 4 x 30-minute sessions and is at a total cost of $80.

These sessions take place at the Gisborne Archery Club Hall in Disraeli Street. These sessions take place on a Monday or Thursday evening.

The session times for these courses take place at an agreed time between coach and student. Please note that once session times have been agreed to by both the coach and student that failure to attend a session by the student without prior notice will mean that the student will be unable to complete the coaching course and a further $10 per session missed will need to be paid to complete the course.

Juniors under the age of 14 years must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver throughout the coaching sessions at all times.

It is also important to disclose any disability including learning prior to booking a coaching course so that a specialized coach can be allotted.

Club activities

The Gisborne Archery Club are associated to the region archery association, Eastern and Central Bay of Plenty Archery Association. The club is involved in a number of competitions with the association over the summer (if you own your own equipment and shoot outdoors) and winter months. These include the Vera London Memorial Shoot held on Waitangi Day. An extended postal shoot over 5 months outdoors as well as an extended postal shoot indoors over the 5 winter months. The Gisborne Archery Club is also usually a venue for the multi venue ECBOPAA Indoor Championships.

An Archery In Schools program is also available for those school age and usually takes place on a Monday evening. This is a great opportunity for those competing to gauge your shooting against other students the same age.

Each year the club also hosts an event named the Gizzy Vegas Shoot, a prize money shoot which attracts the best archers from all over NZ in the various archery associations from target, field and bow hunters. This is a great shoot which is really well supported with wonderful reviews with entries closing for the 2023 event after only one day of the entry form being released. We base this shoot loosely on the well-known Vegas Shoot held in Las Vegas each February.
