Bowls in Gisborne has a wide following, with successful teams from school age right through to masters. Due to recent in-school programs and coach development, the sport is growing in the region. There are numerous clubs to choose from, highlighted below.

Gisborne Bowling Club is the oldest bowling club in New Zealand still on its original site. The club was established in 1884 and has
two-and-a-half natural greens said to be among the best in the country. It hosts competitive and social games including casual bowls year round.
The two-storey clubhouse overlooks Gisborne Harbour and its marina and has stunning views across Poverty Bay to Young Nick’s Head.
Visitors, social bowlers and new members are always welcome.

Kahutia Bowling Club
The clubhouse is set in beautiful grounds featuring a unique wahoroa at its entrance and two enormous Pohutukawa trees nearby, all gifted by Sir James and Lady Carroll.
The two superb greens are of Star Weed combination mix. What an amazing surface to play on. Come along and try – you will be made most welcome.
The Clubhouse is extremely user friendly. The facilities are great and available for hire at a very reasonable cost.
