Hockey in Tairawhiti is coordinated by the Poverty Bay Hockey Association.
There are a number of local teams catering to juniors, secondary and senior players. PBHA also run a renegade hockey league which kicks of in late October.
In 2015 Poverty Bay hockey opened a new $1.7 million hockey turf, The Harry Baker Reserve. The facility is our regions first water-based hockey turf; complete with flood lights so teams can play at any time of day.
