Waikirikiri Park Playground

Gisborne District Council are currently in the process of replacing the Waikirikiri Park playground with a play space that best meets the needs of the community. Through this process, Sport Gisborne Tairāwhiti is working with the Council and key members of the community to gather information to support this project, and to ensure that this playground is a community-led, community-driven asset that the residents and users can be proud of.

We need the feedback and input of the community to inform the design of the new playground and over the next three months we will be engaging in a number of consultation events to capture the voice of the Waikirikiri Park community, young and old. Some of our upcoming projects include a ‘design a playground’ art project with nearby schools, surveys and conversation couches at local sporting and community events, a community information evening in the new year, and an online survey that can be accessed below.

Both us and the Gisborne District Council, are hoping that the construction of this will begin by June 2018.

After 3 months of community engagement, we’ve produced the following document, which will inspire and guide prospective playground designers in their mahi.
